Round-Up Improves Contestant Parking
The Pendleton Round-Up Board of Directors has taken steps to bring contestants closer to the Round-Up Grounds. The change, which will be permanent, will go into effect with this year's rodeo.
'We realize how important the contestants are to the success of the Round-Up,' President Butch Thurman said. 'The board made the decision to try and provide adequate parking on site and overflow parking within the very immediate area.'
All contestants will be required to enter on Southwest 18th Street, just west of the Pendleton Convention Center, where Round-Up helpers will assist with parking, including those with the longer living-quarter horse trailers. All horses will be stalled at the Round-Up pavilion, where adequate space, hay and water will be made available. Barrel racers will be located in the vacant space west of the Sears building, also close the the convention center.
'With the cooperation of the contestants, the board feels this new parking plan will hopefully be a permanent solution to the age-old problem of safe, adequate parking at the Pendleton Round-Up,' Security Director John Trumbo said.
